Welcome to Peace of Mind HomeCare.
My name is Robert and I am the Director of Peace of Mind HomeCare Support.
Peace of Mind is a family run, Australia-wide HomeCare support service, born from my own personal experience in having to look after both my father and later on my mother as their sole carer, both of whom suffered from debilitating conditions in their latter years.
In my previous career spanning 30 years, I worked in the Finance, Legal, Government and Health Care Industries. I worked for organisations including the ASX, ASIC, the Department of Justice, NSW Health, as well as various legal and insurance enterprises.
BUT MORE IMPORTANTLY, I have a combined 15 years of direct personal experience as a part-time and later sole home-carer.
• My father suffered traumatic brain injury in 2002 when he was hit by a vehicle while crossing the road. When he was eventually discharged from hospital, I moved back home with my parents to become my father’s part-time in-home carer, with the assistance of my mother. I still worked full-time during this period. My father passed away in 2013.
• In 2019, my mother lost her ability to walk due to vascular dementia and various other pre-existing co-morbities. She subsequently experienced a stroke which paralysed the right side of her body.I ceased work in 2019 to become my mother’s sole full-time in-home carer. I have been caring for her on my own since then. In support of my mother and her needs, I also manage my mother’s Homecare package which I self-manage.
I have used the Home care package for services such as in-home physiotherapy, in-home speech therapy, showering and care support, as well as the sourcing of equipment such as a lifting hoist, slings, hospital bed with pressurised mattress, wheelchairs, assistive technologies, medications, pads, commodes and other related items. I have also used support staff to assist me with transit assistance as well as showering, food preparation, respite and house cleaning support.
I have acquired an enormous amount of experience during these 15 years of in-home care, including the optimal manner in which to provide care to people in home care environments, as well as the management of Homecare packages and funds, and the independent sourcing and on-going management of client-focussed, cost-efficient and relevantly qualified staff. I am now sharing my extensive home care experience with other families who find themselves is similarly desperate circumstances.
Peace of Mind Homecare Support aims to be a resource for clients, their carers and their families, who prefer to deal with a personal, accessible and understanding organisation who knows exactly what the client and family are experiencing, because I have been in your exact situation.
I make myself, as Director of Peace of Mind HomeCare Support, directly contactable to all the clients and families of Peace of Mind HomeCare at any time that contact is required, and my approach in every case is to treat clients and families as individuals who deserve dignity, compassion, and most importantly a guiding, reliable and experienced supporting service.
